Manawatu Writers’ Festival aims for inclusivity, and we avoid elitism.
It is important that the festival is accessible and welcoming to people from all walks of life, from all our communities. That includes a commitment that economic circumstances should not be a barrier for people who have an interest in writing or reading to enjoy the benefits the festival offers.
Someone asked why we don’t say ‘Manawatu Writers’ and Readers …’.
Is ‘readers’ implicit? Readers need writers and their interest and support keeps many writers going. By celebrating writers, and encouraging writers to emerge from our communicates and connect with one another, we are invigorating communities of readers, too.
The Manawatu Writers’ Festival offers inspiration and encouragement for readers, writers and people who love words, literature – anyone interested in literacy as a means of creative expression and connection, educators, would-be writers, developing writers, journalists, academics, and experienced authors.
It is a fabulous event, celebrating the cross-pollination of ideas and creative stimulation with like-minded people.
(The official opening, and evening entertainment shows may have a small cover charge or koha.)
Come along and enjoy the feast of festival workshops, talks, readings, panel discussions, seminars, and performances, in a wide range of topics and genres, presented by New Zealand writers and speakers.
Authors and publishers are welcome to bring books to sell and display promotional material.
