I have been a student of family history and a member of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists since 1976. I have enjoyed many roles as young council member of the NZSG in the late 1970’s and again in the 1980’s. I founded the North Shore Group of the Society in 1978 and group along with the Auckland group held the first National Conference of the NZSG at the then Akorangi Teachers Training College in 1981. That year I took a group of family historians to the UK on a seven week research trip. For several years i was a teacher of family history at several secondary colleges on the North Shore and as far North as Wellsford and Helensville.
I am currently a Director on the Board of the NZSG with Education as my portfolio. Early last year I formed with Bruce Ralston, the editor of the NZ Genealogist, The Family History Writers’ Network, which was created to encourage family historians to leave a lasting memoir of their research.
